Joseph L. Tanty, D.D.S.
Joseph Lyman Tanty, born January 27, 1932. Welcomed into Heaven and peace while surrounded by family on October 20, 2017 at age 85. Beloved husband of his guide Casmira “Katie” (née Stryjewski) for 53 years. Loving and wise father of the late John, and Suzanne. He is survived by his dear granddaughters (their “Papa”) Sophie, Liza and Kate Baxendale. Preceded in death by sisters Louise (David) Carlson and Mary Jane (LeRoy) Splittgerber, and brother James. “Unc” is further survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families.
Joseph attended St. Norbert’s College and Marquette University Dental School, graduating in 1957. He had a forty-year dental practice in Hales Corners. He met his guide Katie on the 19th hole at Rivermoor Golf Club, fell in love, and married during a January snow storm. Together they were deeply devoted to their faith, family, and St. Josaphat’s Basilica.
In retirement, he and Katie moved to Waukesha and enjoyed visits to see their granddaughters in Massachusetts. Hobbies included reading lots and lots of books, watching lots and lots of sports, and eating lots and lots of donuts! AND he was the family Wii bowling champion having reached 300 more than once!
After Katie’s passing, Joe moved to Massachusetts to live with his daughter and granddaughters. He enjoyed his new life and was an amazing blessing to his family who supported him throughout his brief illness. We’ll miss his smile, gentle nature, and mischievous sense of humor!
A Rosary will be said at 10 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Basilica of St. Josaphat, 2333 S. 6th St., and immediately followed by the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial. Private interment at St. Rose Cemetery, Clintonville, WI.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials to the Basilica of St. Josaphat or Marquette University School of Dentistry are suggested.
