Robert “Bob” Julian
Julian died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the age of 92 at Unity Hospice in De Pere, WI. Robert was born in Janesville on January 19, 1920 to the late Leslie and Thora Julian. After graduating from Norris High School, he married the love of his life of more than 50 years, the late Hazel (nee Schultz) and together they had a son, Richard. Robert proudly served his country in WW II as a member of the 42nd Infantry Division. He was later transferred to the 90th Inf. Div. and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He finished his tour of duty as a staffer on the “Stars and Stripes” – the official newspaper of the US Armed Forces. This experience in print media carried over into his professional life where he worked in the graphic arts industry for the next 40 yrs. Anyone that knew Robert was aware of his passion for cribbage. A four-time National Champion, he was a member of the American Cribbage Congress (ACC) since 1980 and served on the Board of Directors for 18 yrs. In 2008, Bob was inducted into the ACC Hall of Fame. Robert is survived by his son Richard (the late Judith) of Green Bay, grandchildren Curt (Julie) of De Pere, Marcus (Karrie) of Madison, Todd (Juliet) of La Verne, CA, Dean of Simi Valley, CA, Jodi (Shannon) VandenHeuvel of Green Bay, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at 2 PM at the funeral home, with visitation from 12-2 PM. Private interment Milton Lawns Memorial Park in Janesville. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Aurora Visiting Nurse Assn. of Milwaukee and Unity Hospice of De Pere. If desired, memorials to the charity of your choice are suggested.
