Karl W. Richter

Karl W. Richter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karl W. Richter, who left us peacefully on April 13, 2024. Born in 1935 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Karl's adventurous spirit and steadfast determination saw him leaving his homeland in 1957 to build a new life in the United States.

Karl proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, a period that helped mold the discipline and work ethic that he was known for. It was after his service that he met his beloved wife, Gertrud, with whom he embarked on a marital voyage spanning six rich decades since their wedding in 1962.

Together, Karl and Gertrud brought into the world three children, Dwayne (Marie), Connie, and Mark (Carly). Karl was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren, Alex, Samantha, Aiden and Paxton, who delighted in his humor and warmth.

Professionally, Karl's acumen shone brightly. He worked as a dedicated engineer, most notably with A.O. Smith Co., where his expertise was instrumental in building plants across the globe. His career was marked by significant achievements, including sending all three of his children through college, which stood testament to his hard work after arriving in the U.S. with nothing.

Karl always remained tied to his German roots as an active member, for over 60 years, of Carl Schurz Memorial Park. He served in several leadership roles there including Park President. He always held a special place in his heart for all the park members and friends. He enjoyed spending quality time with everyone there, it was a part of his life that brought him so much joy!

Remembered for being a "terrific, smart, fun-loving person," Karl will be missed greatly. He was always quick with a joke, never missing an opportunity to make others laugh with his keen sense of humor. To those who knew him, Karl’s legacy is one of laughter, integrity, and an indomitable zest for life.

We bid farewell to a remarkable man who made an indelible impact on all lives he touched.

Rest in peace, dear Karl. You may have left this world, but your spirit and the love we hold for you will never fade.

A Celebration of Life for Karl will be held at Carl Schurz Memorial Park, located at Hwy's C & K in Stone Bank, on Sunday, July 21st, 2024 from 12-2 PM.
