Rachel Forsythe-Shemel, 24, unexpectedly passed away on her birthday in Colorado
Springs, Colorado on July 11, 2023.
Rachel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 11th, 1999 to Todd Forsythe and
Maureen Dumas. She pursued higher education and graduated Cum Laude from UCCS with
her English B.A. and secondary teaching license, further pursuing and earning her Masters in
Education. She was a well-loved middle school teacher at Jenkin’s Middle School in Colorado
Springs, CO. She loved reading, art, making people laugh, and giving hugs. Rachel was a
caring and loyal friend to many. She was a mentor and was always willing to help. She was an
amazing, loving wife and proud dog mom of Cali and Jun. Above all, Rachel was a pure,
genuine, and beautiful soul who touched the hearts of everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her Grandma Vikki Kline, Grandpa John Fleming, and Uncle
Ricky Alswager.
She is survived by her husband Sebastian Shemel, father Todd Forsythe, mother
Maureen Dumas, step-father Scott Dumas, sister Emily Forsythe, brother Jacob (Jake) Mueller,
grandparents Richard and Rose Mary Alswager, Uncle Paul Forsythe, Aunt Jean (Jim) Miller,
Aunt Kim Forsythe, Uncle Jim (Tammy) Fleming, cousins and many friends.
Visitation at the Bruskiewitz Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 11 AM, followed by family eulogies at 12 PM.
Private interment.
