Horst Walcher

Horst Walcher, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 8, 2025, at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa.

Born on April 13, 1948, Horst's life was marked by his dedication to his craft as a pastry chef and his vibrant community involvement.

Horst began his career as a baker in Austria at the young age of 14, using his skills that would later delight countless patrons across various bakeries in the Milwaukee area. At Cub foods, he would begin as a pastry chef, continuing his passion for baking over 66 years. After retirement, Horst would continue part-time at Aggies Bakery until December 2024. His pastries and tortes not only won him local fame but also served as a bridge connecting him to the German, Austrian and American communities in Milwaukee.

An outgoing individual, Horst was an active member of the Milwaukee Muller Fasching Verein, where he enjoyed participating in cultural events and sharing his heritage. His love for his family, pastries, Kyokushin karate, trips with friends, attending Oktoberfests, Donauschwaben events and his infectious laugh will be things he will be well known for.

Horst was an attendee of Hales Corners Lutheran, where he found spiritual solace and community. His life was enriched by the relationships he cultivated, especially with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita (Horvat), his sister Waltraud Schmid, his children, Eric (Gina) Walcher and Monika (Matt) Sherer, his cherished grandchildren, Gavin and Morgan, his beloved fur grandpup Nala, and countless lifelong friends here and overseas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hedwig Walcher, and his brother, Walter Walcher.

Services to honor Horst's life will be held at the Bruskiewitz Funeral Home, 5355 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee, WI, with visitation on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 from 10 am to 1 pm, followed by a service at 1 pm.
