Cheryl Ann Salaty

Cheryl Ann Salaty

Cheryl Ann Salaty (nee Tess), 77, went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus and her son Dan on May 18, 2023, while surrounded by her family. She has finished her race as a good and faithful servant of the Lord.

Cheryl was born to Alvin and Evelyn Tess in Milwaukee, WI on March 15th, 1946. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Daniel Salaty. She was loved by her husband of 53 years, Ronald, her daughter Laura (Aaron) Gaskell, her three grandchildren Emily (Ben) Seefeld, Anna Cheryl Gaskell, and Grant Gaskell and her brother Gary (Tara) Tess. She is also survived by her sons Steven (April) Salaty and Brian (Kristy) Salaty and their children Megan, Alex, Grayson, and Cashden.

At the age of 14 she met the love of her life, her next door neighbor Ron. Except for one year apart, Ron and Cheryl had been together for 62 years. They enjoyed traveling on many vacations together and spent their golden years in retirement volunteering for their church and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Together they also loved spending time with their grandchildren. Watching them grow over the years and being a part of their lives meant the world to Cheryl. Thursdays will forever be “Grandma Day” as she dedicated one day a week to spending with them throughout their school years. The times they spent together on various outings or just playing pretend in the basement on a sleepover night brought her so much laughter and joy.

Cheryl was ambitious in life. She had a love for baton twirling and started her own twirling corp. After getting married, she worked as a secretary, and later started at Kohl’s in various departments, including ladies clothing and jewelry. Cheryl loved the interactions with people and helping them select just the right clothes and accessories. After her 21 years with Kohls, she went on to work as a teacher’s aide and later still, back to retail, working for Hallmark.

Cheryl also had many hobbies, including following in the footsteps of her mom, as a gardener of flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and created many wonderful meals throughout the years. Cheryl was an amazing hostess and her parties overflowed with a recipe that she “just had to try” because “it looked so good!” Bluegill fishing with Ron was a favorite pastime for most of her life. They enjoyed playing sheepshead and spending time with her favorite cousin Wayne and his dear wife Fay.

Her light-hearted personality and giving nature will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Bringing a cure to the disease that ended her life, would be a gift to those who are affected, and the families that help care for them. The family wishes to thank the incredibly sensitive and caring staff at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa.

Visitation will be held at Brookfield Lutheran Church , 18500 Burleigh Rd., Brookfield, WI 53045, on Monday, June 5th, 2023 at 9 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10 AM. Private entombment at Arlington Park Cemetery , Greenfield, WI.
